"Stenian: Mount Sorrow" by The Ocean
The song begins with a nice quiet piece. It sounds really beautiful and serves as a great introduction and then after a few minutes the guitars really come in with this riff that hits you and flows like a tidal wave. Honestly, that riff alone is one of the greatest things I've ever heard.
One thing that stands out is the vocals. A yelling/screaming voice I probably wouldn't like anywhere else, but by God, they fit perfectly. And the strings that come in on top of them.
This song is just amazing and beautiful and crushing all at the same time. One thing I've come to really like is that there is a small section that literally lasts a few seconds. They break the pace of the song and entire flow with this quick death metal type riff. At first I'd think "Wow, that's really out of place." But now I think of it as kind of genius and a testament to The Ocean Collective's masterful writing on this song. It's like they know they can dare to break the flow to take you out of the mood and feel of the song only to bring you right back before you can even finish the thought. Just amazing.
There really is not one part of this song I don't absolutely love. For those that haven't heard this band before please get Precambrian
Really, this isn't just one song on the album either. Most songs come close to the way I feel about this. It's probably the greatest album that I own.
