PostSubject: One Album Bands   Tue Apr 30, 2013 4:46 pm

I was thinking recently about how many great bands there are that just released one album and then broke up or squandered around doing whatever and still to this day have not released a second album. So, what's everyone's favorite bands like this, and no they don't need to be metal, and they can still technically be together? However, bands that just released their first album like a year ago don't count.

Walknut - Great fucking band, great fucking album. They've been together and apparently working on a new one for 6 fucking years. Someday maybe.
Midvinter - One of the best old school swedish black death bands that no one has ever heard of. Recently reformed, but still haven't released anything new.
Vinterland - An obvious one that I know has several fans here. Also recently reformed but nothing has come of it.
Gris - Yes, this one is kind of cheating since they used to be under a different name and released one album under that name as well, but the albums sound completely different so I count them.
Zuriaake - Great album, and sure they released an EP last year, but it really was only two unreleased tracks from their album from 2007.

Anything one else have some favorites from bands like this?

Does Coldworld-Melancholie count?
Repulsion

I feel like there are quite a few cases of this happening especially in the hardcore world, but most of them I'm blanking on.

Vinterland swore they were working on new stuff and that it would be out soon, but they're lying Stanaists.

The Gault - Even As Al Before Us
Weakling - Dead As Dreams
Thergothon - Stream from the Heavens
dISEMBOWELMENT - Transcendence into the Peripheral

non-metal:

Rites of Spring - Rites of Spring
Sex Pistols - Nevermind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols
The Germs - G
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Tons more I can't think of right now.

Yes, Coldworld does count, and I can't believe I forgot to mention that one. One of my top albums of the last 5 years.

EDIT: Can't believe I forgot Weakling as well. They're half of the reason why I came up with this thread idea.

I was going to name Repulsion.

Aside from them, there's Flames of Hell, Protected Illusion... not too much else comes to mind for me, although I can think of bands that released no albums, which I love.

Are Amesoeurs disqualified by the Ruines Humaines EP?

Most of the ones I would mention have already been mentioned. But I think I'll add Ved Buens Ende to the mix. They're weird as fuck, but they have a certain charm.

What's that video supposed to mean? Started watching it but it sucked. Does she announce a new album or something?

PS I think the connotation of "band" for the purposes of this discussion allows Lauryn Hill the same as it would allow Burzum or Bathory (if they had released one album lol. Can't think of any one-man bands who made only one album--that perhaps is a challenge).

No need to get too literal. It doesn't have to be a "band". And sure, they can have an EP.

It' a new song she's doing on tour for a new album, but since she'll be going to jail for taxes next month it will probably be delayed. Tongue

They made another... with a bunch of different vocalists... that sucked. Their unreleased song at the end was the best one.

I need to check those bands out. I've heard a little of Nazgul, but I don't know a thing about the other "band".

Also, a few other examples of good single album bands:
Midwinter - Chinese black metal band pretty much doing Graveland.
Self-Inflicted Violence - Sure, it's from 2009, but that's long enough ago to count. They kind of fell off the map after this release, but apparently they're still together
Askival - Also only from 2009, but this project is certainly over. Great album, need to listen to it again.
Vohlv - Pretty traditional but really solid black metal from the Ukraine. It was the band the main guy from Kroda was in before he made Kroda.

Fuck man, that Àrsaidh was really fucking good in my opinion. Probably the best "new" band I've heard this year.

Thanks for the L' Ordre Du Temple, other than the kind of cheap sounding keyboards I was really starting to enjoy it by the end.

Yeah, that Àrsaidh track was really good. Never heard Askival I don't think, listening now though and also sounds good but I like the new one better so far.

I need to spend more time with that Àrsaidh, but I'm coming back to this thread to ask if I am the only one that knew a new Gris album is coming out later this month?
