I put Lolita down ages ago. I picked it up again yesterday and I'm reading it from the start.

I just read Grant Morrison's The Filth.

That guy is one fucked up individual. I got Arkham Asylum a few weeks ago and loved it, but I was kinda disappointed by The Filth. Sure, there's a lot of subtext and so on, but the whole freudian thing got tired pretty quick and I felt the meta-comic-world didn't quite work (quite simply too WTF?-ish). Also, some of the sexual imagery came across as being just for the hell of it rather than being necessary.

Also, if Moore could do Dr Manhattan's naked blue penis in 1984, why the hell is Vertigo censoring (or Morrison choosing to censor) cocks in 2003? When one chapter deals with a megalomaniac porn director hell bent on ruling the world through elevating hardcore pornography to the level of terrorism… you don't really need to strategically hide man-crotches behind flower-vases. I guess one could argue that by pixelating it you're somehow commenting on the media censorshipblablabla, but I don't buy it.

If tits and ass are okay, go the full monty.

I'm torn on whether to go on with The Invisibles after this, but Arkham was pretty much genius so I'm going to assume Morrison has got some chops.

I'll check that out. Morrison is a pretty solid writer, I've got a few of his Batman graphic novels.

Hmm, I'm half way through reading several books at the moment, but only one of them is fiction.

Leo Tolstoy - Anna Karenina. I'm almost finished with it, but this book is quite the beast. There was just a difference in how books were written back then. The characters are explored to such depths and are written like real people, who sometimes have secondary thoughts and purposes, instead of being characters that only have feelings and thoughts that are for the sole purpose of moving the plot from point A to point B.

Sometimes the style can be a little too dense, but Tolstoy knows what he's doing.

Fuck yeah Tolstoy.

If any of you have real balls, you'll read both Remembrance of Things Past by Proust and War And Peace by Tolstoy within the same year. So fucking good.

Currently rereading A Portrait Of the Artist As A Young Man by Joyce, with My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist lined up next ( thank you David Wallace ).

Like I've told others before...be prepared to reread passages multiple times per page. There's an extreme lack of punctuation and you can never tell the difference between a character or the narrator speaking because the syntax is all fucked up.

It may not be. I suppose I could have mentioned that the two attempts I made at reading that book (never made it past 60 or so pages lol) I was a pretty poor and unmotivated reader. You'd probably have better luck than me.

Sorry I have other things I need to do in my spare time - like working so I can pay for school and other expenses - so I can't read 24 fucking 7.
