Does anyone here listen to any Alt-Country? I have a lot of gothic country but kind of want to start checking out more of the Alt-Country shit that's not so dark. I know Wilco is an obvious one, but who else is good to check out?

16 Horsepower is awesome. A lot of people like Woven Hand too (which came after 16HP broke up, i believe), but I could never get into them.

I have both of their discogs lol. They're tagged as gothic county on rym, I don't know why, but yeah they're pretty sweet. Woven Hand is almost more like psychedelic country or something, which sounds like something I'd hate but I like them a fair bit. Their guitar work is pretty good.

Wovenhand is David Eugene Edwards' solo project after 16HP. It's pretty good but I like 16HP tons more.

Wilco sucks. Listen to proto-Wilco instead:

Or, somehow Wilco managed to not suck when they teamed up with Billy Bragg. Not all that alt-country though, more folky, but excellent:

MEANWHILE. The creme de la creme for alt-country for me is 16 Horsepower, Munly (who you already know) and Slim Cessna's Auto Club (not sure if you know them, but they're a band Munly's in).

16HP:

Slim Cessna's Auto Club:

Other notable stuff:

Old Crow Medicine Show

Slacks

Alela Diane

Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir

Antic Clay (more gothic than the other stuff so far)

Strawfoot

Elliott Brood

Got more if you want.

I've got about half of those. Slim Cessna is wicked. You can hit me with more whenever if you like.

Maybe more to come later. Which do you already have?

It's positively ridiculous how much of a powerhouse Munly and the Slim Cessna camps are. They're so consistently awesome.

that's most of it I think. Some of the stuff you posted I have I haven't put on rym yet (Strawfoot, Antic Clay). Guess not quite half of what you recommended, I'll def check out what you gave me there though.

o'death, Murder by Death and The Denver Gentlemen. Good man. A lot of what you've got on there I don't know, though.

Drive-By Truckers are a more well-known band, and I think they actually have a lot of stinkers or just forgettable songs, but they definitely also got some mega bangers.

White Sands

(couldn't find any full song streaming links, but that whole album is a masterpiece and can be found without too much trouble I think. More Americana than alt-country, though. From The Netherlands lol)

and Point Quiet (name change from White Sands after their first album)

I'm not sure how well known this band is, but I'm positive they're more vndergr0vnd than Wilco so there's a chance you haven't heard them, but Those Poor Bastards is pretty good from what I've heard.

Bumping to say that, even though I've known this for a while, I've been listening to it a lot lately and that Strawfoot album is fucking awesome. Everyone should check it out.

With Slim Cessna right? That's who they're touring with I thought. They're both gonna be at Stella Natura, along with Munly and the Lupecalians and Denver Broncos UK.
