PostSubject: Question about buzzing on recordings   Sun Jan 01, 2012 7:15 pm

So I've been listening to Giant Squid's Metridium Fields on my headphones for the first time and whenever there's a clean part, there's a shit ton of buzzing on the recording. I know it's not the headphones because I can turn on way bassier stuff and there's no buzzing, and there's not really any during the heavy parts, but this is seirously ruining the enjoyment of this album for me. Anyway I can go about fixing this?

oh and I just found the original recording of this album too, so I guess that's sweet. Think I like the re-release better though

okay so I'm using foobar2000 and it has to be the player, because my mp3 player isn't having this problem.

That's weird. I've never heard a buzzing sound from my foobar2000.

Is your version updated?

yeah. It's onyl on shit where there's deep bass involved. I've fucked around with the equalizer and nothing is working. I think it might be my sound card.

lol bulge, you big ol' cutie.

Do you know what device it's outputting it to?

If you don't know how to check, should be under File > Preferences > Playback > Output at the top.

If it's outputting it to the right device, then I'm not sure what to tell ya.

Weird. Are you using a different skin than the default or anything like that?

Shit, I probably don't have the updated one.

no, it's all default. I'm heavily leaning to the soundcard now because it's happening no matter what media player I use, but like I say my mp3 player plays everything fine.

Could be. What soundcard are you using and how long have you had it? I'm just curious.

Does your motherboard have audio jacks that you could use to test? (This is assuming you already haven't)

I have no idea. I have a laptop so the soundcard came with that. It could be integrated for all I know lol

If the laptop was made within the last 10 years the soundcard is probably integrated.

I think I figured it out. Went into the sound properties and messed around with the speaker settings. There was some dolby digital audio thing there that had bass boost and a couple other weird things and I turned them all off. The buzzing is pretty much completely gone now. Now the music kind of sounds worse though lol

nevermind, it's still there. Even worse on some recordings. What it's almost like is that the computer isn't processing the bass properly. Like on my mp3 player, all the bass sounds very well rounded and full. On my computer it sounds thin, and instead of it being processed to sound full it's just buzzing, like it's echoing back onto itself or something.
