Yeah, I'm a big Craft fan, but I managed to forget that they even had a new one. I just got it stuck in my head that their last one was going to be their final album. I remember they implied that, at least, in an interview.

Pretty sure most everybody was aware. I always thought they were good but also needed a new vocalist. The low grunts don't fit the music at all, for me.

Way more people need to be losing heir minds over the new Esoteric. It's positively monumental.

That's the opener. It's my favorite track. If you wanna be boners about it, skip to the 8:00 mark. From that point to the close of the song I wanna cum and cry continuously. It's so fucking good. The drums slow down and actually get HEAVIER somehow, and adopt an almost tribal rhythm, similar to something I've heard from like Neurosis. Then it regains some of it's momentum, speeds up and lets you know something is about to happen and then finally it's this unstoppable explosion of heavy fucking downfall on your cranium, all at a pace that shouldn't be anything close to death/doom, let alone funeral death/doom. But Esoteric's ramped up their speed before to a brilliant affect before and this is no exception. And the volume. Oh my god the volume. The louder you play it, doesn't only mean that the sound gets louder. It gets more fucking intense and suffocating and deadly. I still don't think I'm making a top album list this year, and even if I were I'm not sure this would be in the #1 spot (thou it would invariably be top five I think) but this song itself is making the strongest case for song of the year for me. FUCK.

This whole album has diversity, which it admittedly does need considering the length (ninety minutes)...but in every department. The most "helpful" of the diverse characteristics is the vocals. Most underrated vocals in all of doom, and I think so because they aren't always consistently traditional death/doom vocals. I particularly love the screams, almost a black metal shriek really, and done better than many devoted black metal vocalists. But this isn't a mere piercing, high-pitched, surface-grazing level scream. It still has a lot of weight to it, and remains somehow decidedly doomy.

Buy or die faggots.

I agree with this post in every facet, though my favorite part with this song comes from 4:00 till past the guitar solo. Of all the things you talked about, my favorite of theirs is one you touched on but the same detail: this band fucking owns at speeding up and slowing down their music and creating energy through it. At a loud volume, hearing this band gradually speed up their sound and build up their momentum makes it feel that much louder and heavier. They can do abrupt changes or changes that last 5 minutes, and it doesn't change how fucking awesome they are.

I don't know where I rank this album, but this is definitely one of the most memorable songs I've heard this year that I keep coming too. It's damn good. Just wont touch Oranssi Pazuzu or No Made Sense to me. It's up there with Yob, Trap Them, Cultura Tres, Devin Townsend (haters gonna hate/hipsters gonna hip) and Tombs fighting to fill out the final 3 spots of my top 5, though.

I'm finally starting to work on my album of the year list. I'm having trouble with this year though. I'll have something put together in the next week or so, but it's gonna be a weird list. A lot of contrasting genres.

Blasphemy!

It's not as good as Shadows of the Sun, but I'd rank it above Blood Inside and probably about equal with Perdition City.

The only downside was that it was the first Ulver that wasn't a 180, but rather an amalgamation of their previous sounds.

I listened the hell out of it when it came out, and have left it alone since then so as to not burn out, but it's definitely an awesome album.

As for my AOTY, I was going to do this huge post, but I can't be arsed.

Cliff-note version:

Panopticon - Social Disservices (pretty much knew it before I heard it, but the album surpassed my expectations)

Honorable mentions:

Peste Noire - something in french (Audrey + killer guitar work, sampled porn/guns and chicken-noises.)
Burzum - Fallen (best fucking Burzum since Filosofem, AGAIN)
40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room (epic)
Earth - Demons of Light, Angels of Darkness pt 1 (two words: drone cello)
Ulver - Wars of the Roses (see above)
Lantlos - Agape (liked it from the start, and it's grown on me even more)
Woods of Desolation - Torn Beyond Reason (enjoyed the previous albums, loved this one)
Bjork - Biophilia (see my post on the music board)
Tom Waits - Bad As Me (it's fucking Tom Waits)
Taake - Noregs Vaapen (it's Taake, with fucking banjo)
Liturgy - Aesthethica (hipsteriffic)
Leviathan - True Traitor, True Whore (despite me initial hesitation considering the subject matter, I really dig this album, and I'm not a big fan of Leviathan to start with. It's like he's taken the whole Nachtmystium/Lurker of Chalice psychedelia and channeled that through pure rage. Also, killer drums.)

I reely have to go back though my albums i dl'ed. Its funny that black metal

I finally think I've generated my list, and it's fucking weird. Not posting it yet because I need some time to sit on it. To try and show you guys how weird it is, I'll say this: Wolves in the Throne Room and Primus are right fucking next to each other on it.

Yeah, this is my first year in a while that every album on my top 10 is black metal. I usually have about one death metal album on there and maybe a few other random things.

It's solid but not better or equal to Perdition City. Blood Inside is my 2nd favorite album of theirs. I would say it's about on par with Shadows of the Sun.
