I really don't get why I feel less about Alcest's music just because there's so very little screaming. Is it because without the screaming the music truly isn't metal anymore? Does the sole act of metal vocals transform music from a genre I don't care for into an entertaining product? Neigy's cleans aren't bad, I usually think they're good in Lantlos which is the group of his I listen to the most. It just a standard song here I feel I should like, I kind of don't.
I wonder this because it makes me question certain things:
Would I enjoy Muse if the singer would employ harsh vocals to embellish their music? Would screams improve music I already like, like Sarah Kirkland Snider? Would they improve the music of genre's I don't expect them in (obviously in the happenstance of a well-written song that appeals to me, not in a sense "rubbish" like Brokencyde)?

I like how people are bitching about screams when like 90% of alcest songs don't have any screaming.

I don't know if I'm complaining, I just prefer having some tomatoes with my bruschetta.

I'm certainly complaining (not like hardcore--I know it'll still be good and I'll still like it at least enough). But I'm also not suddenly having this opinion; not flip-flopping on it or anything, and I don't think that most people here who share the same opinion are, either. And that's sort of the point, really. For me, Alcest is a band that doesn't make albums that are consistent; not with me, at least. They're all kind of peaks and valleys, from really really awesome to pretty good to sometimes downright boring. Those highs are high enough to not be bothered by the rest, and overall I still like them plenty, but I think Lantlos is more consistent and the highs are just as high.
For my money, the debut Amesoeurs EP is my favorite thing Niege has ever done, Souvenirs is by far my least favorite album from Alcest (well, maybe the amateurish demo has about the same or a little less enjoyment for me, but I doubt anybody here is thinking about that), and I like Lantlos overall much more than I do Alcest. Am I still an on-the-cock Neige fanboy? Hell yeah. Am I into his clean vocals and dreamy/shoegazey stuff? Usually, yeah, but rarely ever anything close to as much as his black metal moments.
Also: 90% of Alcest songs have no screaming? Even not counting the demo again, that's an exaggeration.
