Not sure if it's just for live shows or what... but they're touring on Soundwave. Just found out like a few days ago. Pretty cool, to me.

Most of you guys probably don't care.

I've already seen them live like 3 times. Didn't like it then, and won't like it now.

Good for them, though.

I prefer Devildriver.

If I could go to Soundwave I might see them.

Sooo... instead of making a new Coal Chamber topic I'll bump this one. I bought Dark Days at a thrift store yesterday.

And holy balls. I always forget how awesome and heavy this band was. This was the first truly heavy band I ever heard. I know you may lol @ a nu-metal band being really heavy... but they are. Meegs (their guitar player) claimed to use bass strings on his guitar and it just creates this really heavy and dense guitar sound. It's great.

Man... I still really love this band. I hope they are back for more than just a tour or that festival. I'd like some new Coal Chamber.

Sounds like a fun way to completely ruin a guitar.

Hmm, I never answered this question. Lets see if I can remember...I believe I saw them open up for Megadeth, maybe Slayer, and probably on the Pantera/Anthrax tour. Maybe it was only twice and not three, but shit, that was so long ago.

Interesting that they opened for such high profile bands.

I think they were one of the few bands in that era (late 90s) that were close enough to metal and popular enough, but not so popular that they could headline their own tour.

So, they pretty much opened up for everyone. Fear Factory also opened up for Slayer, but I can't remember any other bands that opened up for these bigger bands at the time.

I just didn't think they were big enough to open for bands like Slayer and Megadeth.

I know they did have some tours of their own... but they were much smaller. They headlined over bands like Kittie, ICP, and Slipknot.

Yep, I just had to go and look it up. I was partly wrong, they didn't open for Slayer and Fear Factory. However, in 1997 they opened on both the Megadeth and Pantera/Anthrax tours.

I've never listened to Coal Chamber, but I did meet Meegs at a guitar shop when I was like 13. I had only just started getting into metal then (my music collection consisted of Dimmu Borgir albums, a couple Cradle of Filth albums, and Darkthrone's death metal album Soulside Journey), and he tried to talk with me about metal, but there wasn't much I could really say. I remember him referring to Slipknot as speed metal, haha. I told him I liked Darkthrone, and he was aware of black metal like them. I didn't know much about any other black metal though, so again there wasn't much I could say Tongue

Despite not having heard Coal Chamber (outside of one song I think; it was a live track on an Ozzfest CD, which I remember nothing about), I like DevilDriver though. Their self-titled is kind of bad, but The Fury of Our Maker's Hand is really a pretty great album.

DevilDriver's self-titled is pretty much a poor version of Coal Chamber. Like... Coal Chamber has that except same vibe and sound, only better.

Just for example. There is a song that stood out for me on their last album Dark Days. I also remember your story about Meegs and I think it's cool that you met him. He probably does have a skewed view of metal or at least did before. Back in the 90s it was hard (at least to me) to really know what was what. You heard of bands and you heard what other people called them. It wasn't that simple to just go and check them out. Perhaps he still doesn't know very much about metal, but I've heard that is how Coal Chamber was. They were guys playing nu-metal that really knew nothing about metal. It works for their music, to me. I probably couldn't talk to them about music, though.

I had this song on a Duke Nukem compilation

and back when I was all into nu-metal, I thought it was cool.

Borrowed their first album from a kid at school and was really let down it didn't sound as cool.

He also lent me their sophomore album and that one sucked even more.

Then a friend a few years later lent me Dark Days and that blew dick, too.

But who knows, maybe I'd think they're pretty cool now.

I still think "Blisters" is balls-awesome.

Their albums get progressively better. Dar Days is, by far, their best. And Chamber Music is pretty sweet, too. Not a big fan of their first one.

I only have their first album. I never really got into them as by the time I was getting into metal they were already gone. I will eventually pick up their other albums but I haven't been that into of metal of late.
