FINALLY got the fucking thing. Listening to it now. I like the music... but it seems to be really weak. Mixing wise. The riffs and everything are there, but it seems to lack a punch. I was listening to The Unreal Never Lived earlier and it really does hit hard. Good music, but I'm disappointed in the quality.

I think that's his complaint.

I still haven't listened. When I was at the show, I was surprised/bummed at how pricey merch was, and didn't pick it up. Since then I've been too busy/broke cuz of moving and couldn't convince myself to buy much of any music stuff (really only Boss-De-Nage, and that was because it was limited and had a killer price).

I think in a month or two I'm actually just gonna make a huge Profound Lore order. There's a bunch of stuff they have I want and they have pretty durned good prices.

Yeah, it does kind of sound like just raw recordings. Normally I like that, but for some reason this lacks the punch that raw stuff normally has. Like, I dunno how to explain it ha. It's lacking low end? They didn't mix the lows up enough? I dunno. I can tell it's heavy but it doesn't come across as heavy as it is. It's just kind of flat. I'm listening to it on headphones. I'm going somewhere later, I'll see if it improves in my car or not.

I love the mix, especially for "Before we Dreamed of Two". It's very raw and heavy, but I can sort of see how you think it doesn't "hit" as hard as say The Unreal never Lived or Age Eternal (Middian, but practically the same stuff). Not as many accents in the composition here outside of the first song, but that doesn't change the fact that this record has probably the most infectious groove I've heard from YOB ever.

I'm just so glad that unlike the Great Cessation, this album gave more lines for the Bassist and the mix brought out more of the Bass/drums. TGC felt like more of Mike carrying the load, which while he's really good it felt to singular focused for what I expect from this group's disco. At least to me I think the Bass is perfectly mixed (I'll always take louder though, lol). It is better with a sub, on the last song it feels like my sub is playing the entirety of the Bass lines when they're doubling on parts (and that's great).

See, it's sounding to me like the bass and drums aren't coming through like they should. Maybe the mix just doesn't go well with these headphones.

What are you using, my skull-candy earbuds, while lacking any physical feel, doesn't hurt the bass that much. Def try it with a sub, though YOB's a group that requires a sub to me anyway.

Audio Technica ATH-A700 lol

I don't get it. They usually bring it out really well. That's why I'm assuming it was a problem with the mix. I'm listening to "The Quantum Mystic" and it sounds just fine. I dunno.

Perhaps it's really meant to be listened to with speakers than headphones. This is a much rawer YOB compared to their mid to more recent offerings. It's not as raw as Elaborations of Carbon was or Catharsis, though, sort of a middle ground between EoC and tUnE.

I hate to say it but I'm still disappointed in the way this album sounds. Which really sucks because the music here is really awesome.
