Without Josh Homme, though, right?

Yeah Homme isn't involved, but still it'd be awesome to see.

Looks like Deafhaven's doing a show in Santa Cruz on the 29th, which is a Friday, so I can't make it cuz I've already been requesting too many nights off/switched haha. Too bad, cuz I've already missed them multiple times, and I think Road to Judah might be my favorite album this year so far. I've only had the thing for like six weeks and I've definitely listened to it like a hundred times lol.

They're playing with bands I've never heard of save for Ringworm, who's headlining. They're pretty god damn crappy, though, so I guess at least this time I'm not missing an altogether awesome billing lol.

i don't think so tim

they'll be around again with better bands. They said their SF show at the submission was going to be the one and only time they played tunnel of trees. Wish I went to that one

Why the one and only time?

Yeah, that would have been so awesome to be at the record release show.

I don't believe they explained why. But I'm hoping they change their mind.

Ringworm's definitely pretty got danged not good though, for real.

Just booked a free hotel room through my work for the Portishead show. There are hotels in the East Bay, but none had free rooms available. So our plan (I did get a fourth person to commit to going, so all my tickets are already spoken for and we got a full carload. Goin to be shit tonnes of fun) is to go to S.F. early in the day, check into the hotel in the afternoon and dick around town most the day, maybe even stuff like play disc golf or just go to record stores and other shops and whatnot. That, or (or perhaps some combination of) drive the twenty minutes to Berkeley earlier in the day since it's at the Greek and it's all college country so we might fuck around on Haight/Telegraph, go to Amoeba/Rasputin, get Fat Slice Pizza, etc..

Then we'll get our ears lovingly penetrated at the show, which will likely end relatively early since it starts at 8 and has only one opener, and go back to the hotel hopefully with enough time to also go to some hopefully within walking distance bars and hopefully get at least a solid hour or more in before last call. Hopefully.

Also, my boss at the hotel has done the employee-comped hotel room thing before, and he says that requesting or being offered a room upgrade upon arrival is pretty commonplace. Right now, I have a pretty standard, mid-grade double-bed room reserved, because that's all they were offering with the full-comp. But when they're not at capacity and have nicer rooms available, you can do an upgrade for as little as $5-20. Looking at this hotel's website, it looks like they have a room they call a "studio suite" with two king beds as well as a lounge/sitting area with a sofa that I think folds out into a bed, which is mainly awesome just for more/better sleeping arrangement options.

amoeba music sucks so much dick. was in the metal section for maybe 20 minutes and I didn't find a single album worth buying for their prices. Plus it's organized so poorly. I'd go next door and focus on finding some gems in rasputin honestly.

You're trippin...especially if you're also limiting yourself to only looking in the metal section and having that be the only basis for not liking them

I used to like Amoeba more, when I was more into hip-hop and DVDs, but over the last couple of years I have flipped over to the Rasputin side--for the time being at least. But Amoeba is still a worthy store. When I go to Berkeley and go to one of the stores, I always go to the other. It's just a given. The S.F. Amoeba is better, though.

I had many CDs picked out over at Rasputin, but I wanted to see if Amoeba had any of those same albums for a better price before making a purchase. Found a lot of bands that weren't at Rasputin, but all of them were overpriced. Seems more like a store for hipsters who listen to everything on a record player.
