Fuck yeah! Awesome movie. I'm assuming a US DVD still has never come out for it, correct?

Dread: 7/10 - Decent pseudo-horror flick. A bit odd, a bit disturbing, not bad.

Shark Night - it's not even over, but I feel confident in calling it the least sense-making movie I've ever seen

The Chaser: 8/10 - Pretty entertaining and not as heavy as some of the other Korean films like this.

Yeah, that's a great movie, and it really surprised me how good it was. It wasn't bad for a first time author/writer either.

He made another film after this one with the same two leads that I really want to see, but I'm forgetting it's name right now.

Went and saw Underworld: Awakening tonight. For free in IMAX 3d.
Was surprisingly good. Non-stop action pretty much but felt like it still had substance through it as well. Nothing groundbreaking or anything, and obviously no stellar acting performances, but for what it is I enjoyed it quite a lot. Best of the series, by far.

Close your Eyes: 6/10 - An OK film. Nothing too remarkable. The movie may have been too convincing because it was putting me to sleep. Tongue

Catch a Fire: 7.5/10 - An interesting film in that the protagonist becomes a hero in an unlikely way. It's got emotion, good acting, good story, but I felt that it could have been vamped up a bit to make the film really great.

Safe House - 4/10

A fairly boring movie. I worked who was behind everything in the first half hour of the movie. At least I want to the cheap cinema in town and only spent $6 to see it so I can't complain.

Oh yeah, I watched some movies, but now that I have Letterboxd it kind of kills off the desire to post anything here, lol.

But these are da fieuwmz from the past 30 days (ratings out of 5, italics designate rewatch):

The Slumber Party Massacre - 3.5
Redline - 4
Trava: Fist Planet - 3.5
Chillerama - .5 (unless you can go no rating/0, 'cos this thing sucks)
Gunsmith Cats - 4
Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie - 3.5
I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK - 3.5
Slumber Party Massacre II - 2
The Animatrix - 3
Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge - 3
Dark Waters - 4 (this is how Argento's "Three Mothers" trilogy should've ended)
Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie - 3.5
Tim & Eric's Billion Dollar Movie - 3.5
Amer - 3
The Sky Crawlers - 3.5
Yakuza Weapon - 4
Father's Day - 4
Ichi the Killer - 4.5
Dead or Alive - 5
Dead or Alive 2: Birds - 5
Dead or Alive: Final - 4
Gozu - 4.5
The Deadly Spawn - 4

Here's what I watched while I was gone.

Drive: 8/10 - Pretty good movie

Naked Fear: 4/10 - Not very good.A kind of throw back to the human hunt films like Hard Target but crappy. At least the chick who gets naked looks good otherwise the score could have been lower. Tongue

The House of the Devil: 9/10 - Really enjoyed this. It had an old school feel for a modern movie.

Trading Places: 7.5/10 - Not super funny but it is enjoyable

Precious: Based on the Novel by Sapphire: 8/10 - It's like a darker version of stand and deliver.

Highlander: 7/10 - So I don't think I saw this as a kid so I don't have a sense of nostalgia to go with this film. That being said it feels really cheesy. Decent film for the 80s I suppose.

Two Can Play that Game: 7/10 - A total chick flick but guys can get some enjoyment out of it too.

Hehe, Highlander.

I'd go as far to say I'm obsessed with that movie and the TV series. Even though I love 80s cheese, I still slightly prefer the TV show.

6 seasons of awesomeness. Well, the first half of season one and most of season six sucks, but otherwise it's my favorite TV show.

That's too bad, though, because so many people give it a try and understandably can't get through the first half of season one. Then they just right it off as a terrible show.

Been years since I watched it, but it definitely is on an entirely different level of awesome than regular awesome.

I might just buy it now.

Of course you'd like it. :o I thought it was all right, but was certainly filled with pretentious (sometimes boring) wankery.

HERE'S THE MINI-REVIEW I WROTE ON LETTERBOXD

A bit heavy on sensuality with not enough focus on horror. This movie takes some of its audiovisual style from the works of Dario Argento and Mario Bava, but in a narrative sense resembles the giallo not at all. The best portion of the film is the beginning regarding child Ana, which is thick with suspense and creeping atmosphere. Beyond that, Amer goes from being great to, "Well, this is all right." And an all right film is what it wound up being to the end.

By the way, I saw The Secret World of Arrietty, which was awesome. The director must be Miyazaki's protege or something, 'cos it looked just like one of his movies.

The motorcycle scene was one of the most amazing parts of that film.
