Nah I didn't.

This is just really shitty and amateur. Most of the time I can't even tell what's going on. This is just a mess of an album.

Ghosts, and Other Things is fricking brilliant.

This is fact.

It's got everything that made the first album good, but better production/bigger soundscapes. If there's any kind of criticism they deserve is that they've gravitated even more towards being pure Velvet Cacoon worship.

"Velvet Cacoon worship" is just a very ironic statement when you think about it.

Early Velvet Cacoon worship would be ironic; I'd say they've developed their own feel and sound in their later three or so albums.

Velvet Cacoon's shoegazer / psych-folk recordings were stolen albums. "How the Last Day Came and Stayed then Faded into Simulated Rain" demo was almost completely stolen from Korouva's "Shipwrecks & Russian Roulette". Korouva's album has 10 tracks, while VC's demo has 9, though two tracks that can be found in Korouva's Myspace are not in VC's demo. The "Dizzy from Eternity" demo is in fact My Violent Ego's "Clicks & Hisses".

Basically, they stole all their early output.

Yeah, I knew that. I dunno. So, saying this is early Velvet Cacoon worship is ironic because there is no early Velvet Cacoon? And, essentially, this isn't VC worship because the style it would be worshiping wasn't done by VC?

Jesus... I'm too drunk to be trying to figure this kind of shit out.

Not really, because you pretty much nailed it.

Also, you have to have balls made of steel and dipped in chrome to actually do what they did as far as actually stealing entire albums and calling them their own. I mean seriously, what the fuck?

It's pretty ballsy... But not horribly so because neither of them are very well known. The only reason I know of Velvet Cacoon is because of IGN. And I wouldn't know of the other artist if it weren't for VC.

Ehrm... I'm not well versed in VC history, but as far as I know Korouva's album was the only one they stole, that leaves Dextronaut, Genevieve, Northsuite, Pa Opalyadayada 33 and and Atropine. The albums I think sound like Sleeping Peonies (or vice versa) is Genevieve and Pa Opalyadayada 33. But after a re-check I think I might have been exaggerating.

It was in no way an ironic statement, though.

Also, that Korouva album is beautiful. At least when they stole they have taste.

I won't really comment on or dispel any of the long standing Velvet Cacoon internet rumors which include a variety of stolen albums, something called a diesel harp, a girl named Angela and shoulder bumping with the Earth Liberation Front. As someone who has known and appreciated VC/Josh since the beginning I think it's fun to kind of let these things take on a life of their own and see who gets it, who doesn't and who types out mile long tirades calling for the nuclear destruction of "hipster black metal". Razz

But for the record, let me just throw in my two cents worth and say that Sleeping Peonies doesn't really sound anything like Velvet Cacoon (aside from some nautical-seasick basslines), in fact the new EP is a step away from any VC influence the band may have exhibited on "Rose curl.....".

The "Velvet Cacoon rip off" or "Alcest rip off" comments I see too make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Sleeping Peonies as a band is its own entity altogether- love 'em or hate 'em that's just the way it goes.

Anyhow here's a picture of the packaging:

And a fan made video:

I am also available for major photo shoots and private oil down & pose sessions.
