When it comes to classifying music i usually can't place what category a band belongs in. My i-pod has crummy memory since it's 2GB and i'm trying to make playlists based on one genre but at times i have bands that i can't classify. Any help on what you people think these bands are would be much appreciated. I'll post more later when i think of other bands i'm unsure of.

Divine Heresy
3 inches of blood
Trivium, since their sound on ascendancy and the crusade are different
HIM
Slipknot

3 Inches of Blood is Tradition Heavy Metal or whatever Chad calls that genre.
Trivium, more than likely metalcore or thrash. I'm not sure which of their cds are which.
Slipknot is definitely nu-metal.

Divine Heresy and HIM, I dunno.

I'm sure Cghost will come and say how I'm wrong.

When lines of genres blur I just tag it plain old "Metal" - If it's not part of the big three, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, or Black Metal I don't really care what genre it is.

Why? You're not wrong. I'd say Trivium is just Metalcore though. And yes, Traditional Heavy Metal for 3 Inches. Divine Heresy and HIM are both garbage though.

It just seems like a thing you'd do.

I'm kinda iffy with Gojira at the moment. I'm saying Death or Prog due to the concept of their cd.

Bring Me The Horizon are Deathcore right?

Bring Me The Horizon would be deathcore.

I'd say Gojira is death metal. I've only heard one album, though.

I believe Gojira is filed under fucking ownage. I'll have to verify with metal-archives, though.

Gojira isn't death metal to me.

More like heavy regular metal or post rock sludge

I can hear the sludge in From Mars To Sirius.

Every Time I Die?

Wikipedia says metalcore but they don't sound very metalcore to me. I'd say that they're southern metal. Damn i hate the fact that there is so many freaking genres out there. Can anyone think of a better classification for them?

From all that I've heard, I say metalcore fits them perfectly.

I can see the metalcore elements to them but some of their songs have a very southern feel to them with the guitar riffs. I'll probably put them under metalcore since i don't have any other southern rock or metal bands on my computer.

I've Been a long time
Ebolarama
The New Black
Kill The Music

Now that i listen to them more i'm starting to see why they would be thrown under metalcore. They just aren't really a typical metalcore band with all their songs. Some songs do have that southern style sound to the riffs and the vocals but i'm more agreeing with metalcore at this point.

I've Been A Long Time and The New Black are two I am familiar with and I'd call those metalcore... I'll listen to the other 2.

Listening to those songs... I don't really know why you'd wonder if they aren't metalcore? Sounded pretty core-ish to me. I'd actually heard Ebolarama before, too.

I don't know why i didn't really think that they didn't fall under the metalcore genre. To me they just seemed different to all the other metalcore bands i listen to. Their sound threw me abit. I'm used to the sounds of Killswitch Engage, It Dies Today etc who all have a very similar sound and Every Time I Die seem to have an altered sound to the metalcore genre to my ears but i'm not good with classifying music since i'm still rather new the metal scene.

Well, metalcore also has the crazy and spastic bands like Ion Dissonance and Dillinger Escape Plan. I don't know why... but it does.
