I beat the GBA version (not Zero Mission) once before. That is one hell of a game to get through. Damn near impossible without a map.

Did you do a super metroid speed run like that guy with no life on Nintendo Week?

I used to speedrun Zero Mission a lot. I think I got it down to like 59 minutes.

My last Super Metroid run was 2:59

I'll have to consult that old nintendo week to see what that dude's time was. Hopefully they didn't take it off.

When I've tried playing Metroid on GBA, I didn't really enjoy it. So when I got my NES I never even Metroid in to give it a go. I finally did the other day when I made this thread. And I played it for a bit last night, too. Actually, this game is a lot of fun on NES. The GBA port is just not very much fun for some reason. I want to print out a world map and play through it again on NES. Ahhh... what a task that game is. I think it will be fun, though.

On a side note, I never enjoyed Metroid II when I had tried to play through it. Finally, I decided to get a map and trudge through. I wanted to beat all the Metroid games. And actually, that game was a shit load of fun when I actually kind of knew what was going on. Those first two games suffer terribly because of the lack of a map system.

I hated Metroid when I was a kid; in large part because of the lack of any map. I haven't played it in awhile though, and I did play through and beat Super Metroid last year (which I thought was alright), so maybe I'll give the NES Metroid another go.

I did print out a map. I've been playing through it. It's actually really easy when you know where the items are. The only thing I have left to do is kill Mother Brain. I've died twice against it... the first time because I didn't realize how low on health I was. The second because I didn't have enough missiles. It just sucks that I'm going to have to sit and stock up on missiles. That's the worst part.
